Once a thesis has been stated, the author now must develop a topic sentence. A topic sentence will function as the focus of this essay. The author must choose a topic sentence, which is backed up by logic and evidence. It is a lot like developing your debate; the only distinction is that instead of using your own reasoning, you are relying on others. The writer cannot outright argue against her or his thesis, but he or she is able to provide reasons why his or her thesis is accurate.

The third step involved in writing an essay is the conclusion paragraph. The end paragraph is the decision of the essay and it’s typically the last paragraph that readers will see before coming into this indicator. The writer have to make sure the end paragraph is quite compelling. In addition to having good motives as to why the conclusion is accurate, a good conclusion paragraph is likely to make the reader want to understand why the author is so certain that the conclusion is accurate. At this point, the writer must make certain that his or her thesis is strong enough to hold their attention through the entire duration of the essay.
